Violet Jean Moton neé Martin was born on February 12th, 1951 in Bradley Arkansas to mother Lovie Estelle Martin and father Elijah Witt Martin. She went home to the Lord after a battle with cancer on March 8th, 2026.
Violet Jean’s early years were spent with family in Bradley Arkansas. The family relocated to San Diego California in 1958 and violet graduated from high school and went on to study at Coleman College.
She held careers in human services for San Diego Urban League and Dept. of Health & Human Services and as a legal secretary.
After raising her daughters Amanda, Anjanette, and Nicole as a single mother, she met and Married Kenneth Edward Moton in 1974 and the union produced children Erika and Erik.
Violet enjoyed spending time with her family. Intellectual stimulation came from voracious reading, having discussions on literature, politics and her Christian faith which was very important to her. After retirement, she enjoyed solitary pursuits including watching her favorite games shows, doing crossword puzzles, listening to music, and going to the casino.
Preceded in joining the Lord: Mother Lovie Estelle Martin neé Hall, father Elijah Witt Martin and daughter Nicole T. Dumas.
Survived by: Husband Kenneth Moton, Daughter Amanda Mason-Lewis, Anjanette Dumas, Erika Moton, son Erik Moton. Grandchildren Victoria smith, Sade Smith, Victor Smith, Eboni Graves, Jackie Graves, James Graves II, Anthony Graves, Israel Dumas, Angelina Parrish, Makayla Parrish, Nariah Williams, Rhianna Richardson, Jordan Banks. Three great grandchildren. Also her aunt Bertha Sumpter, uncle Richard Hall, cousins Florida Reynolds, and Julia Wilson, niece Kiana Martin, grandniece Aalimah Hayes, son-in-laws David Lewis & Elvie Warship and a host of other cousins and relatives all who will forever cherish her memory.

Services will be held at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Bradley, Ar on June 9th 2026 at 2pm central.
