It is with a heavy yet celebratory heart that we announce the passing of Calvin Dwayne Blackwell Sr., who departed this life peacefully on October 8, 2025, at the age of 63. Born on August 16, 1962, in Texarkana, Texas, Calvin lived a life rich with love, resilience, and passion.
A devoted family man, Calvin is survived by his beloved spouse, Sighle, as well as his cherished children: Calvin Jr., Raffinee Cook, Camron and Sydnee. He is also survived by brothers: William Blackwell Sr., Louis (Emma) Blackwell and Curtis (Brenda) Blackwell Sr. All of Texarkana sisters: Carolyn Riley of New Boston and Marilyn Blackwell of Texarkana. Grandchildren: Ke'Maron, Brendalynn, Carter, Taliyah, Ethan, Collin, A'Riyah, Stormie, and Kynleigh. Uncles: Lee Dorhan of Los Angeles, California, Troy Austin of Texarkana, Gary (Gloris) Pickett of LaPalma, California, and Don (Veronica) Pickett of Stone Mountain, Georgia. Aunts: Ruth Blackwell of Texarkana and Gwen Pickett of Los Angeles, California. Father and Mother-in-Law: Mary (William) Reeves and Jimmy (Callie) Donelson of Texarkana. Brother and Sister-in-laws: Darryl (Anita) Pickett, Ricky (Tonya) Donelson, Deidre (Rev. Larry) Jordan and Jimmy (Angela) Donelson all of Texarkana and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives. Calvin's unwavering dedication to his family was evident in everything he did, and his spirit will continue to inspire them.
Calvin was a proud Army veteran who served as a Specialist 4 (SP4) from November 25, 1981, until November 23, 1984. After his military service, he became a valued employee at the Red River Army Depot, where his commitment and work ethic were well known.
Calvin's journey was marked by incredible resilience, as he bravely battled cancer three times and showcasing his tenacity and strength. Ringing the bell three times was because of God's grace and his mercy. He was a passionate fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Arkansas Razorbacks, Texas Rangers, and the Baltimore Ravens. He could often be found cheering for his teams with infectious enthusiasm. He was a lover of classic cars, especially Corvettes, Calvin had a keen eye for beauty and craftsmanship, and he enjoyed the thrill of travel, discovering new places and experiences. His love for yard work reflected his dedication to nurturing not only his home, but also the environment around him.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate the life of Calvin Dwayne Blackwell Sr. during the public viewing taking place at Four States Funeral Home, 601 Pine Street, Texarkana, TX, from 4:00 to 6:00pm on Friday, October 17, 2025. Funeral service will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, October 18. 2025, at the Unity Missionary Baptist Church, 603 Waterfall Street, Texarkana, TX, honoring a man whose life was filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable moments.
In honoring Calvin's legacy, let us remember his vibrant spirit, his determination, and the loving bonds he cultivated during his time with us. He will be deeply missed but will forever remain in our hearts.
